More Than a Good Dog: How You and Your Dog Can Change a Life

Hosted by Clay County Public Library

At Fleming Island Library

Best for adults

More Than a Good Dog: How You and Your Dog Can Change a Life is on Mon, Oct 26 at 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fleming Island Library, 1895 Town Center Blvd, Fleming Island, FL 32003.

Maybe your dog has a special way of comforting people, sitting quietly beside someone who needs a friend, or turning an ordinary moment into something a little brighter. Therapy animal work takes those natural gifts and puts them to work in our community.

Join us for an inside look at what it really means to be a therapy animal team and the difference these teams can make in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, and libraries. We’ll talk about the people and dogs who make great therapy teams, what qualities matter most, and why being friendly and well-behaved is only part of the equation.

You’ll learn what the certification process involves, what you and your dog can expect during evaluation and training, and how to get started if you think therapy animal work might be right for you.
We’ll also share stories and experiences from local therapy visits—including the unique ways dogs can bring comfort to a nursing home resident, encouragement to a hospital patient, confidence to a child at school, or help a young reader discover the joy of books.
Most importantly, we’ll talk about what makes a successful therapy team: a willing dog, a compassionate person, and a desire to make a difference.

Come discover whether you and your dog could be the next therapy animal team in your community.
